Building Memories (BM) uses personal experiences and relates them to topics of importance to building.

This BM explores the variety of animals that inhabit Chicago’s Northshore and Skokie Lagoons.

For more than 20 years, I’ve walked to the island in the Skokie Lagoons. It’s accessible by a land bridge, with a network of trails that can take as little as 20 minutes or up to two hours if you follow the full perimeter. My main companions on these walks have been our two dogs—Ringo, who passed away about six years ago, and Fletcher, my current hiking buddy. I’m always amazed by the abundance and diversity of life we encounter on these island excursions and throughout the Cook County Forest Preserve system.
