Did you know developing Standard Templates and Workflows (STWs) across the building industry is challenging due to several deeply rooted issues? Each office tends to use different software platforms, coding systems, and workflows, which creates significant incompatibilities and makes collaboration difficult. Many firms also treat their internal standards as proprietary intellectual property, seeing them as a competitive advantage, which discourages sharing and standardization across the industry. As a result, data becomes siloed within individual organizations, making it difficult to unify, access, or reuse across different projects or teams. Additionally, companies invest heavily in technology and employee training, but when professionals move on, that investment often leaves with them, further fragmenting the process. Coordinating among multiple organizations, each operating within their own technological ecosystems, adds another layer of complexity. Together, these factors make it difficult to implement STWs in a way that supports seamless data flow, collaboration, and long-term efficiency across all phases of building design, construction, and operation.
