Did you know that by building green we can can reduce the impact our buildings have on contributing to climate change. According to Architect 2023, building accounts for 40% of all greenhouse has emissions. Our industry should invest more time in green building as it reduces landfill waste, enable alternative transportation use and encourage retention and creation of vegetated land areas and roofs.
LEED is an ecology-oriented building certification program run under the auspices of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). In a study it was determined that by building to LEED standards, buildings contributed 50% fewer GHGs than conventionally constructed buildings due to water consumption, 48% fewer GHGs due to solid waste and 5% fewer GHGs due to transportation.
